The Banned Aid Coalition has retained criminal and civil rights lawyer Clayton Ruby to challenge the Ontario legislation.
Banned Aid is a coalition of five dog organizations who are working together to defeat breed specific legislation in Canada:
Advocates for the Underdog
American Staffordshire Terrier Club of Canada
Dog Legislation Council of Canada
The Golden Horseshoe APBT Club
The Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club of Canada
Banned Aid supports dangerous dog legislation that applies equally to all dogs and dog owners. Breed specific legislation is based on cultural scapegoating where politicians and the media attempt to simplify a serious and complex problem by blaming it on certain dog breeds.
When you cut through the hype and emotion the facts that emerge are startling. Breed is not a driving factor behind serious dogs bites. Dogs of any breed can demonstrate inappropriate levels of aggression and ownership factors play a significant role in the development of aggression in an individual dog.
At Ontario’s public hearings every credible dog expert, including veterinarians, trainers, groomers and technicians opposed the proposed breed specific legislation while applauding aspects of the legislation that would apply equally to all dog owners. Yet the government chose to ignore the advice of the experts and passed breed specific legislation.
Banned Aid is raising funds to support a legal challenge to Bill 132 that has been filed by Clayton Ruby.
